About us

25 years managing Southern California rentals

America’s Best Property Management has looked after single-family rentals for Inland Empire, Orange County, and Los Angeles County owners since 2001— under one California broker’s license, from one office in Riverside.

How we work

Small enough that someone knows your property

We manage single-family homes, not apartment towers. That is a deliberate limit. A single-family rental is somebody’s former house, or the house they hope to move back into, and it needs a manager who treats a broken water heater as urgent rather than as a ticket in a queue.

The office is intentionally small. When you call, the person who answers has either walked your property or can pull up its file while you’re talking. That is the whole argument for a local manager over a national franchise, and it stops being true the moment a company grows past the point where anyone remembers your address.

What that looks like in practice: one written screening standard applied to every applicant, a maintenance spend threshold you set rather than one we assume, and broker trust accounting under California B&P §10145. We will also tell you when a property needs an attorney rather than a property manager — that answer costs us a client sometimes, and it is still the right answer.

The wider group

Management is one part of it

America’s Best sits alongside a mortgage lender, a real estate brokerage, and an escrow company under the same ownership. Most property managers can only manage.

Thinking about refinancing?

You can get a straight answer from a lender who already knows what the property rents for, instead of explaining your rental income to a stranger at a bank.

Thinking about selling?

We can tell you honestly whether the numbers favor selling or holding — including when the answer means we lose a management client.

Buying another one?

Lending, brokerage, escrow, and management in one place, which mostly means fewer handoffs and fewer people who don't have your file.

The people who answer

Who you’ll be dealing with

  • Jeff Maas, Owner & Broker at America's Best Property Management

    Jeff Maas

    Owner & Broker

Jeff founded America's Best in 2001 and is a licensed California real estate broker. He built it alongside a mortgage, brokerage, and escrow operation, so an owner here can get a straight answer about refinancing or selling without being handed to a stranger. His rule for the office: tell the owner what you'd do if it were your house, and put the number in writing.

  • Renee Shell, VP of Operations at America's Best Property Management

    Renee Shell

    VP of Operations

Renee has managed rental property for twenty years and has spent that entire career in real estate. She has been with America's Best through the whole of its growth, and the size of this company is largely her doing. She runs day-to-day operations, which means the standards this office applies — how an applicant is screened, how fast a maintenance call gets moved, what an owner statement has to show — are the standards she set. Twenty years in, very little about a tenancy surprises her.

  • Dominic Chacon, Property Manager at America's Best Property Management

    Dominic Chacon

    Property Manager

Dominic holds an MBA and is currently working toward a PhD, which is an unusual background for this business and a useful one. He has managed property for three years and brings an analytical habit to decisions owners usually make on instinct — whether a repair is worth making before a listing, what a vacancy is actually costing, when holding out for more rent stops paying for itself.

  • Victoria Smith, Assistant Property Manager at America's Best Property Management

    Victoria Smith

    Assistant Property Manager

Victoria is the newest member of the team and came to property management from a sales background. She is exceptionally good with people, which matters more in this job than it sounds — most of leasing is returning calls quickly, showing a home well, and reading an applicant accurately. The homes she oversees lease faster than anything else in the office.
